Bridging Feminism and Faith: Reinterpreting Gender Equality within Islamic Educational Discourse

Abstract

The concept of gender theory that means the differences between men and women from a social and cultural perspective is still relatively new. Opinions about gender became a hot topic in 1977. Several groups of women activists emerged in London who expressed oppression and intimidation, triggering awareness to face this phenomenon. Feminists have a perspective that assumes that biological symbols between men and women should not be the only reference for the division of social roles in society. Because it causes injustice which results in divisions between groups of men and women. The writing method in this article is based on the library research method. The data collection technique in writing this article is by using references from several academic books, literature, papers or academic journals, and written articles to add data that needs to be clarified and used as a basis for relevant theories and related to the problems raised by the author in this article. Through library research conducted by this author, it can be seen that: 1) Gender is a social construct created to understand the differences between men and women. The feminist movement that fights for equality is based on the phenomenon of women in various parts of the world due to injustice.
