INTERNALIZATION OF RELIGIOUS VALUES IN CHILDREN THROUGH LITERACY ACTIVITIES

Abstract

The cultivation of religious values from an early age is a fundamental aspect of children’s character development. The advancement of the digital era presents various challenges in instilling religious values, thereby requiring adaptive and meaningful educational approaches. This article aims to examine the role of literacy as a medium for religious values education in children, covering the concept of religious values, types of literacy, forms of literacy activities, the roles of parents and educators, and the impact of literacy activities on the formation of children’s religious values. The research method employed is a literature review by analyzing relevant sources such as books, scholarly journal articles, and educational policy documents. The findings indicate that literacy—including reading, writing, visual, and digital literacy—plays a strategic role in enhancing children’s understanding of religious values, shaping religious attitudes and behaviors, and fostering meaningful reading interest. The implementation of religious literacy supported by role modeling, guidance, and a conducive literacy environment has proven effective in internalizing religious values sustainably. Therefore, the integration of literacy in religious values education needs to be continuously developed as an effort to shape children’s character to be faithful, morally upright, and literate-oriented
