KECERDASAN INTELEKTUAL DALAM PERSPEKTIF AL-QUR’AN: TELAAH TEMATIK-KONSEPTUAL TERHADAP FUNGSI AKAL DALAM PENDIDIKAN ISLAM

Abstract

This study examines the construction of intellectual intelligence in the Qur’an and its implications for Islamic education. It responds to cognitive-centred conceptions of intelligence by arguing that Qur’anic intellectual activity integrates reasoning, moral discernment, spiritual awareness and responsible action. The study employs qualitative library research using a thematic-conceptual approach. Qur’anic verses associated with naẓar, tafakkur, tadabbur, tafaqquh, fahm and tadhakkur were examined alongside selected Qur’anic commentaries, Islamic psychology literature and relevant journal articles. Data were analysed through content analysis involving identification, categorisation, comparison of interpretations and conceptual synthesis. The analysis identifies six interrelated modes of Qur’anic intellectual activity: observing reality, reasoning about consequences, reflecting deeply on revelation, comprehending meanings, applying understanding to problem-solving and internalising knowledge as moral awareness. These modes perform observational, reflective, moral, revelatory, lesson-drawing and wisdom-forming functions. Accordingly, Qur’anic intellectual intelligence extends beyond cognitive competence by connecting knowledge with faith, ethical judgement and responsibility. As a conceptual library study, the findings clarify a framework rather than demonstrate classroom effectiveness. Its application, therefore, requires empirical testing in Islamic educational settings. The study contributes a thematic map that integrates six Qur’anic intellectual modes into an educational framework linking cognition, spirituality, morality and action.
